Mineral Economics
The Department of Mining Engineering of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the Universidad de Chile, in collaboration with Curtin University, offers the Postgraduate Diploma in Mineral Economics.
Mineral Economics is a field of knowledge that is international and interdisciplinary in nature. It is particularly important because the mining industry plays, and will continue to play, a prominent role in the global economy and is critical to the prosperity of many nations. Above all, it is an applied discipline that studies issues affecting people's lives. A mineral economist is a professional who must weigh business, technological, cultural, and institutional considerations to understand the outlook for the non-renewable resources sector.
The Diploma explicitly recognizes the international nature of the field of mineral economics. The participation of internationally renowned academics is a fundamental contribution to taking a global perspective on the industry, and together with a student body made up of a wide diversity of leading professionals, this strengthens an international community of experts in the field.
The Diploma is designed to train professionals who will take on senior management roles in companies and institutions in the natural resources sector. To this end, it places special emphasis on the economic and financial aspects of the mining industry, incorporating a strategic and international vision of the sector.
Upon completion of the Diploma in Mineral Economics, graduates may apply for the academic degree of Master of Science in Mineral Economics, awarded by Curtin University in Perth, Australia, which will require completing five additional courses in Australia.
