Specialization Program in Geoestatistics
The Department of Mining Engineering of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the Universidad de Chile offers a Specialization Program in Geostatistics aimed at the advanced training of professionals seeking to deepen their expertise in geostatistics as applied to the mining industry and the geosciences.
The Program is designed as a flexible, focused academic alternative that integrates the theoretical foundations and practical applications of geostatistics through a modular, high-level academic structure and does not include a final capstone project.
Its design and academic requirements distinguish it from longer training programs, such as postgraduate diplomas and graduate programs, focusing instead on strengthening specific competencies and on the critical application of advanced methodological tools—contributing to continuous professional development and the building of specialized technical skills in applied geostatistics.
Objectives
The objective of the Specialization Program in Geostatistics is to provide participants with a solid theoretical and practical foundation in the fundamentals and advanced applications of geostatistics, with a focus on the analysis, modeling, and quantification of mineral resources and geological uncertainty in mineral deposits.
Upon completing the Program, participants will be able to:
- Understand and apply modern geostatistical methodologies.
- Analyze geological and geochemical data using spatial statistical tools.
- Critically evaluate geostatistical models used in the mining industry.
- Interpret results and effectively communicate associated uncertainty.
