How to apply
The Doctoral Program in Mining Engineering is multidisciplinary. Candidates are expected from different specializations of Engineering and Earth Sciences.
Application to the Program is done online through the Graduate School of the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences:
Documentation required
- Certificate of Degree
- Curriculum Vitae
- Motivation letter (addressed to the Program's Academic Committee)
- Transcript of grades
- Program of studies (official description of approved courses that led to obtaining an undergraduate degree) only if the applicant wishes to validate courses.
- Two letters of recommendation (addressed to the Program Coordinator)
Previous contact with an Academic in the research area of interest is recommended before formalizing the application; including a motivation letter and CV is recommended.
Additional documents for international students
- Attach a table of evaluation to show grade equivalence in Chile. Grades in Chile are on a 1 to 7 scale.
- Certificate of Degree, endorsed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of home country and the Consulate of Chile in the home country.
- Translation of degree endorsed by the same organizations if degree is not in Spanish. International students must apply for a student visa at the corresponding Chilean Consulate. A tourist visa is not acceptable.
Applicant selection
Selection is based on the following criteria:
- Academic background (40% of the selection grade): home institution, academic degree, graduation ranking, grades and academic history.
- Motivation letter (30%).
- Academic and/or work experience relevant to the Doctoral Program (20%).
- Recommendation letters (10%).
The Academic Committee will consider the student's previous training and will validate those courses whose contents are considered to be suitably covered by coursework that the candidate has previously completed.
